Ernie Haase + Signature Sound

Listeners who hear Tim Duncan's rich bass tones would never believe that this quiet, young man, who spent hours listening to Gospel records as a young boy, at one time had a desire to sing the high tenor part.

In fact, it was the tenor sounds that resonated from the four-part harmony which most attracted Tim to quartet music; however, the natural tones that came from Tim were the low bass notes, and he was eventually resigned to the fact that he was a true bass singer.

"Some friends and I were singing after church one night," Tim shares. "and I was singing the lead part. Someone suggested that we add a bass singer, and they were totally shocked when I volunteered."

Apparently, his friends liked what they heard, and so did Tim, because the part stuck, and Tim began to practice and practice, perfecting his new found talent. "I sang constantly," he says with a grin. "I sang in the car, at home, on the job, everywhere." With a great desire to be the best he could be, Tim learned that the Blackwood Brothers' legendary bass singer, London Parris, lived just 20 minutes away, and he asked Parris to give him voice lessons. Parris agreed, and the hard work paid off, as Tim has become recognized as one of Southern Gospel Music's finest bass vocalists.

After singing with several groups based in the South, the Mississippi native learned that Ernie Haase was forming a quartet. Tim made the call to Ernie requesting an audition. Like everyone else who hears this talented young man sing, Ernie, too, liked what he heard, and immediately named Tim as the Signature Sound bass singer.

After accepting the offer to sing with Signature Sound, Tim moved his wife of 16 years, Melissa, and sons, Breck and Brandon, from their Alabama home to Ohio, home base for Signature Sound. "I was so thrilled to have the opportunity," Tim shares, "and we felt so strongly that God was leading us to make the move. I'm so thankful Melissa and the boys were supportive."  Tim remains thankful for that continued support. "I am very blessed. My family sacrifices the most for my career, but they also encourage me the most. They are my biggest fans, and I couldn't do this without them."
